Speaking to my younger brother at a family wedding on Saturday and he's planning to do the Great North Run next year. I think i've always had a sense of rivalry with him although there's no good reason why. He's in the army, served in Iraq aswell and although still in the army, he now has a desk job in Epsom and isn't quite as fit as once he was - he does run though and in a fitness contest would wipe the floor with me, no question.
So that's my target, the Great North Run, on September 20th 2009. 13.1 miles from Newcastle to Gateshead and as such, I've realised that i'll need to plan my approach wisely.
At present I could run a mile if my life depended on it. In almost exactly 10 months time I need to be able to rattle off 13.1 miles without needing medical attention. Hmm, could be tricky.
So i've set myself targets of what mileage I need to be able to achieve and by what dates:
29/11/2008 - 1 mile
27/12/2008 - 2 miles
24/01/2009 - 3 miles
21/02/2009 - 4 miles
21/03/2009 - 5 miles
18/04/2009 - 6 miles
16/05/2009 - 7 miles
13/06/2009 - 8 miles
11/07/2009 - 9 miles
25/07/2009 - 10 miles
15/08/2009 - 11 miles
29/08/2009 - 12 miles
12/09/2009 - 13 miles
Baby steps is the way to go, so this weekend I'm going to run a mile. I am.
